Welcome Wednesday: Pascal Hennen

This week we welcome the self-described passionate gamer and living jukebox, Pascal Hennen.

Pascal is a Saarland native with a brilliant sense of humour. He is completing his Master’s Degree in Computer Science, and just joined anynines as a working student in the a9s Data Services team.

Mr Hennen is incredibly friendly and always has a big smile and jokes to lighten the mood.

1- We are thrilled you have joined us Pascal, can you please introduce yourself?

Hello there,

My name is Pascal, I was born and raised where “dein Vater konnte auch schon nicht schwenken” is one of the worst insults you can say, the beautiful Saarland.

2- What does your path look like until now?

Before I joined anynines, I did my Bachelor Degree in Computer Science at the Saarland University while working part-time for the “Telecommunications Lab”. Now, for one semester, I am doing my Master’s Degree in the same field as my Bachelor’s.

3- What are you doing when you are not working?

I am a passionate “gamer” if you want to call me that, but who would have thought that for a computer science student, am I right? Sadly, I don’t play any instruments, but music is a big part of my free time especially since my father raised me as a living jukebox for Pink Floyd, Queen and many other bands.

4- Where are you originally from?

In the North-West of Saarland I’ve been born and raised. On the playground was where I spent most of my days…To be precise, my home village is called “Britten” and is next to the “Losheimer Stausee”.

5- What would people love about your hometown and why should they go there?

My hometown is a “anerkannter Erholungsort” (that just means we have some fresh air there), which leads to a lot of elderly people living there. You can go there for sure, but be aware that the average age is about 60.

6- How did you hear about anynines? And what was your motivation for joining us?

I have a good friend who works here already, he told me about anynines and it sounded interesting. So I decided that I want to work even more, as I only did about 6 hours a week for my old employer during my masters, and here I am.

7- What can you tell people who are considering computer science as their path?

If you don’t have to, don’t study computer science but if you are currently studying computer science, don’t worry, you can do this! Jokes aside, if you see me somewhere in the office or anywhere we can socialize, please do so, everything is more fun if there is a good mood floating around.

8- What will you tell people who are interested in Tech?

Don’t dig too deep into the rabbit hole, there is no bottom of it and suddenly you try to get a grasp of the new XYZ computer architecture for the new ABC chip and compare benchmarks for hours. And for those who already did, the new M1 chips are just too good to be real, that much performance and that even without active cooling? A miracle in modern craftsmanship.
