Welcome Wednesday: Yaman Aljazairi

This week we get to know Platform Engineer from the Data Services team Yaman Aljazairi.

He is truly passionate about his work and field, and extremely dedicated to continuous learning and growing, who came from the oldest continuously inhabited capital in the world, Damascus in Syria.

A true fighter who loves to travel and to discover new places and cultures, and in this interview, you can learn a little more about the path that led him to be part of our team.

1- We are thrilled you have joined us Yaman, can you please introduce yourself?

My name is Yaman Aljazairi, I’m a working student as a Platform Engineer at anynines and a full-time Master student at the University of Applied Sciences Saarbrücken (HTW Saar).

2- What does your path look like until now?

I started my Bachelor in Computer Science and Communications Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Saarbrücken – HTW Saar – as a full-time student.

In my 6th semester, I had three months of full-time training at anynines and then worked there for three other months on my Bachelor thesis.

After finishing my Bachelor’s, I started my Master’s and kept working for anynines as a working student.

During my studies, I worked on many projects where I learned a lot about Software, Hardware, Security and also Communication Systems in labs based on Cisco equipment.

3- What are you doing when you are not working?

In my spare time, I like to play basketball, swim, read about technology, go to the gym, and play games if there is some time left for it.

But what I enjoy the most is travelling. It just relaxes me and fulfils my need of discovering the beauty of this world.

4- Where are you originally from?

I was born and raised in Damascus, Syria.

5- What would people love about your hometown and why should they go there?

Damascus was established between 10,000 to 8,000 BC and is the oldest continuously inhabited capital in the world which is also known as the “City of Jasmine”.

The Old Town is where you’ll most likely want to explore and visit, where much of the fascinating history, and architecture is found.

The most compelling aspect of the city’s culture is the old Damascene houses. Their special feature would be having a wide yard with a fountain in the centre of the house. The yard is decorated with plants and trees — especially Jasmine. That’s why Damascus is called the “City of Jasmine”.

I don’t want to spoil the beauty of exploring the city and its culture, but I can tell it’s a unique experience to be able to visit such an ancient place.

6- How did you hear about anynines? And what was your motivation for joining us?

I heard about anynines through my search for an IT company that I could learn from whilst working.

Furthermore, I believe that Cloud-based software solutions open up wide horizons for a brighter future.

Therefore, I chose anynines to take part in this development, besides having a passion for learning new technologies and solutions, and anynines implements many of these.

In addition, anynines offers a very transparent and friendly process for their applicants and this was another reason why I chose to work for them.

Their approach and response made me feel comfortable. I honestly take these things into consideration because in my opinion the work- environment and the -atmosphere are the most important factors in productivity.

7- What can you tell people, who are considering anynines as an employer?

Don’t be afraid of applying if you’re interested in learning new technologies.

You’re going to be treated with respect and friendliness and you’ll definitely enjoy your time learning and getting more experience in a variety of fields between us.

8- What will you tell people who are interested in Computer Sciences?

Your college classes won’t teach you everything and this field of work and study requires patience.

Unfortunately, it’s the fate of the developer and computer scientist to always keep learning and stay up to date with the technology world. It takes a lot of time and effort to get used to it, but it’s worth it, especially if you’re interested in getting to know how the world is connected behind the scenes.

Gabe Newell, the co-founder of “Valve” has once said: “The programmers of tomorrow are the wizards of the future”.  Therefore, don’t be afraid of diving into the computer science world as it’s one of the most promising fields of the future.

Enjoy exploring it and don’t be a lone wolf, although working independently and motivating yourself might be great. Share your knowledge and ideas with your friends and work on interesting projects with them instead of finishing everything alone. That’s how you’ll surely enjoy the field even more and learn from each other.
